GALA ND/SMC, the LGBT alumni group for the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College, together with local NYC LGBT Catholic groups, will be sponsoring a “Pilgrimage of Mercy” to celebrate and recognize LGBT faithful Catholics in the United States.
Join us in this pilgrimage in a respectful walk through the streets of NYC.
The pilgrimage will start at 11:00 am at the East 69th St entrance to Central Park (E69th and 5th Ave) and end at The Church of St Paul the Apostle (Corner of Columbus Avenue & West 60th Street), followed by an optional mass at 12:30pm. Participants are asked to meet by 10:50am to start the walk promptly at 11:00am.
During the walk, there will be a peaceful rally adjacent to Columbus Circle (59th and Central Park West). Guest speakers will include Greg Bourke ‘ND ’82 (MA Sociology), and his husband Michael De Leon, who were named 2015 Persons of the Year by the National Catholic Reporter, Chris Hartman, Executive Director and Founder of Catholics for Fairness ND alum Phil Donahue ’57, American media personality, writer, and film producer best known as the creator and host of The Phil Donahue Show and others.
This event will be held rain or shine!
If your church group or organization would like to join the walk, contact Jack Bergen, GALA ND/SMC chair, at jack.bergen@yahoo.com. Individuals should sign up using this registration form.
